GrubSteakers Owner Gets Own Holiday

Ava Mirtoska will be celebrating along with the rest of the Stateline Area on May 9th.

A fellow co-worker of mine today told me that he drove past GrubSteakers for the first time since after the tornado. It wasn't just GrubSteakers that was destroyed, but also three homes next to it and plenty others across the Stateline Area.

I've never seen the aftermath of a tornado in person, but I have seen, as we all have photos and video of the destruction.

GrubSteakers in Rochelle was completely leveled, yet every individual who was in the building that Thursday night was safe thanks to Ava Mirtoska. Ava Mirtoska who owns the restaurant has been recognized and honored by the Ogle County Board, according to WIFR, for being a hero that night.

It was her heroism and quick thinking that allowed all twelve patrons to be able to walk away from the EF4 tornado.

It has been declared that May 7th of this year will be Ava Mirtoska Day.
