A Veteran's group is trying to raise money to bring an F-4 Phantom Jet to Lena for the Northwest Illinois Aerial Combat Memorial.

It's very special when a community can honor Veterans.

We are lucky because in our area there are many different memorials.

Hopefully, soon we will be able to add a very unique one to our list.

A group of Veterans based out of the Lena area are working on this project.

It's the Northwest Illinois Aerial Combat Memorial. The focus of this future tribute is an F-4 Phantom Jet.

Here's a sketch of what it will look like.

The idea came about when a former Air Force Pilot who once flew an F-4 Phantom Jet discovered the United States government still had a couple of them in New Mexico.

He put together this group and they requested one of the planes.

They were awarded a jet to use for a memorial.

Once they found out the good news, all the hard work began.

The F-4 has to be transported to Illinois from New Mexico.

Once the plane arrives, they will then have to construct the actual memorial.

Of course, this will take a significant amount of money. They will need $80,000 to complete the project.

Fundraising efforts have started.

The Veterans group is attending several local events to collect donations.

Brick pavers that will be placed around the combat memorial are available for purchase.

If you would like more information, to make a donation, or help out in any way, please check out their Facebook page HERE.

I can't wait to see it when the project is completed.
