Originally, Groundhog Day was in that kind of holiday category. Then a little town in Pennsylvania called Punxsutawney started making a big deal out of it. They adopted a groundhog by the name of Phil and he became the star of the holiday to predict the weather forecast of an early spring or longer winter.

That event became so big that there was a movie made about it. That was "Groundhog Day" starring Bill Murray and many others. Part of that movie was filmed in Woodstock, Illinois. That town became a favorite place to visit for fans of the movie.

The town of Woodstock embraced the newfound popularity from the movie and started their own party. It has become a huge event and the biggest Groundhog Day party in Illinois. Fans drive from all over the country to attend this celebration.

This Groundhog Day party has become so big that it is now a multiple-day festival hosting events, activities, and fun for the whole family. The highlight of the celebration is the appearance of their groundhog, Woodstock Willie, with his prediction.

The festival events in Woodstock kick off on January 30th and run through the actual Groundhog Day on February 2nd. If you're lucky, you might even meet one of the cast members from the movie.
