Fascinating Time-Lapse Video of Giant Building in Chicago Being Moved

When I was a kid I remember seeing entire houses moved in Rockford. I had no idea where they were headed to but I vividly remember it happening two or three times. However, I never knew it was possible to move entire buildings.

The fascinating began when I scrolled by this picture on Facebook.

After I saw the photo I fell down a "how do they do that" rabbit hole.

HOW FAR can you move a massive object like a home or building?

Turns out, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, they can be moved pretty far. In Canada, it took Warkentin Building Movers, Inc. 40 hours to move the building a record-setting 1,205 miles back in 2006.

It takes a team and a lot of steel beams and dollies and wheels to make this happen. Based on the time-lapse video below it's a lengthy process. You've got to believe it ties up traffic too. Imagine following a trailer carrying a portion of a manufactured home only much much slower.

(The building above is not the record setter mentioned previously but it does hold the record for the largest residential building ever moved, and you can find it in Chicago.)

HOW MUCH does it cost to move something like an entire house? It can range from as low as $15,000 to as much as $200,000, according to Realtor.com.
