What is Oktoberfest? It's everything beer.

Just because the temperature is dropping and the sun is setting earlier doesn't mean the fun is too. As we creep into September the only thing better than playoff baseball and the kickoff of the football season is a major player that ties both sports together; beer.

Danke schön!

Danke schön is right! (By the way, Danke schön is german for cheers.)

When it comes to Oktoberfest and beer (and cheese) there is no better place for Illinoisans to visit than Wisconsin. Just because they have unlikable sports teams up there doesn't mean we can't drive up there for some fun.

The first Oktoberfest party takes place in one of my favorite places, New Glarus, Wisconsin.

New Glarus' four-day party is scheduled for  September 23, 24, 25, and 26. The party doesn't cost anything to attend but you'll need money for beer, food, more beer, and possibly a costly Uber or Lyft ride home.

There are hotels offering shuttles to and from the event but only for hotel guests. There are also free cab rides available within 10 miles of the festival.

The 4-day event has a full schedule of activities each day but, on Friday and Saturday, their famous wood keg tapping happens at 7 pm.

You can find more about New Glarus' Oktoberfest here.

Lake Geneva is holding their own Oktoberfest in early October. Their festival will be just two days, both of which are packed with plenty to do. Check out their schedule here.
