Luckily in the Rockford area, we are blessed with many delicious restaurants to enjoy the tasty food of the day. You're going to have to plan ahead of time because they will all be very busy that night and probably even all day.
If you haven't looked ahead on the calendar, Cinco De Mayo is falling on a Sunday this year. Even though that's not ideal for partying, it extends the celebration. Many places will be hosting parties on the Friday (5/3) and Saturday (5/4) before.
Besides being a big foodie holiday, Cinco De Mayo is also known for boozing it up. Back in my younger drinking days, one of my favorite types of events was going to bar crawls. Those are fun, especially in Chicago on a special day like this one. There are several scheduled for that weekend. Many of them benefit a local charity.
If you're looking to do something a little bit more family-friendly, don't worry I've got you covered too. There's the annual Cinco De Mayo parade in Chicago. It's being held on the actual 5th starting at noon. It runs down Cermak Road from Wood Street to Marshall Boulevard.
