Even though the state of Illinois is broke, they are still going to put up holiday lights on the Capitol building.

Most people enjoy the holidays. I was driving downtown on East State Street over the weekend and it looked great with all the decorations.

According to the State Journal-Register,

"The state will pay for holiday lights to go up on the Capitol building this year."

When I saw the news, I thought that's great. Then I learned something else.

"The state owes the city for water, light, and power about $5.5 million for its bills past due beyond 60 days."

Maybe they should pass on the lights this year.

I know at my house if I still owed a bunch of money for bills, I wouldn't be putting up any holiday lights.

I wonder if it's too late to enroll our state officials into an Economics class at Rock Valley College for the Spring semester?
