Controversial Holiday Display At IL Capitol Will Blow Your Mind
There is a Satanic holiday display in the lobby of the state capitol building of Illinois.
Decorating For The Holiday Season
Holiday displays are going up all over the state of Illinois including at homes, businesses, schools, churches, and more. Residents have decorations to celebrate Christmas, New Year's, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Festivus, and others. It's a good way to get into the spirit of the season.
Illinois State Capitol Building Lobby Has An Interesting Holiday Display
After a court decision back in 1989 allowing a Nativity scene in an Illinois state government plaza, holiday displays including religious ones at the capitol building are protected under the First Amendment.
Any group interested in participating must apply for a permit through the Secretary of State Physical Services Department. There are some public safety rules that are required. This year the lobby is host to a Christmas tree, Nativity scene, menorah, and something from the Satanic Temple.
All displays are flanked by a sign stating the state may not legally censor the public space.
Free speech applies to everybody.
Satanic Temple Sets Up Holiday Display At Illinois State Capitol
Once again, the Satanic Temple has set up a holiday display at the Illinois State Capitol. It includes a crocheted snake sitting on a book and a pile of apples crocheted by Temple members. Of course, there are complaints but they won't stop the Freedom of Speech from happening in the lobby.
I'm not a satanist but I do like the fact it's allowed to happen and they actually do participate. If I lived closer, I would probably stop by to just check it out.
Do you remember earlier in the year when a group was trying to set up an afternoon school Satanic club at a school in Moline, Illinois? Check it out, HERE.
