Deer Are Big Problem & Cost Wisconsin Millions Of Dollars
If you plan on heading up to Wisconsin anytime soon, beware of deer because it's that time of the year when they cause major problems for motorists.
Deer Are A Costly Problem In Wisconsin
I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago so deer were never really a big concern in the area where I lived. The animal that was the biggest problem for us was skunks. If you accidentally hit one of those with your car, it wouldn't cause any physical damage you just had to deal with the smell.

It was when I moved to Rockford that I discovered that deer could be a big problem for drivers and their vehicles. Especially on the outskirts of town. That's when I started knowing people who have had accidents with the animal.
In reality, Rockford and Illinois are no match for the deer problems in Wisconsin. Since there are so many rural and wooded areas it's prime territory for deer. It doesn't matter what time of year or what part of the state, it seems like there are always dead deer lying on the side of the road.
You have to be really careful driving through Wisconsin, especially at night. Those deer have no fear and will dart in front of your car at any time with no hesitation. The major problem is they can do major damage to your car if you hit them. It's a very costly accident and deer don't carry insurance.
Vehicle versus deer accidents have cost Wisconsin millions of dollars. There are almost 20,000 each year. Since 2001, the state has shoveled out more than $16 million dollars for clean up of dead deer. In the past six years, there have been over 7,500 accidents costing insurance companies $40 million dollars. Repairs average over $5,300 for repairs.
