Winnebago County Sheriff Caruana Not Enforcing Stay at Home Order

With two weeks to go on Illinois' extended Stay at Home order, some counties around the state are choosing not to enforce the Governor's orders.

One day I feel very good about what my family is doing to stay safe and keep others safe, the next day I feel it's unnecessary to still have to be under a second month of a Stay At Home order.

Earlier this week, the Illinois Sheriff's Association issues a memo advising departments to not enforce the stay at home order and to not cite businesses that open in defiance of it, according to wrex.com.

Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana said:

"I'm not telling you to defy anything."

Businesses caught defying the Governor's order could lose their license to operate.

"What I'm telling you is what we're doing as a law enforcement agency and we're not going to be the personal protective equipment police - the PPE police." (Sheriff Caruana)

We all want this to be over and get back to the way things used to be. I'd just hate if we rushed to do that and we wind up with another outbreak and then be back where we started.
