It's not related to Wisconsin's alcohol beverage law, either.

There are some weird laws in the world, country, and state. In Wisconsin, it is illegal to serve butter substitutes in prison. In Missouri, it is unlawful to drive with an uncaged bear. In Indiana, mustaches are illegal if the bearer frequently kisses other humans. Iowa and Kentucky have weird laws too. Perhaps not as surprising as Illinois' weird law about drinking.

It's no secret someone has to be 21+ to purchase and drink alcohol in Illinois. It doesn't matter if you're with a legal guardian that is at least 21, like in Wisconsin. However, there is a loophole. Go to culinary school and you can drink even if you're under 21-years-old, kind. In 2012, state officials approved "sip and spit" at culinary schools so students could understand drink pairings with dishes and recipes.
