The Thunder from Down Under are ready to roar again with a new album due on December 2, titled Rock or Bust. We can only assume it's going to be a ballad-free rock 'n roll juggernaut that AC/DC is known for.

They will follow that up with a tour in 2015, but there will be one major missing factor. Malcolm Young. Mal has provided the steadiest and most dependable rhythm guitar work in rock, in my humble opinion. He is like a machine really. It was announced this week that Malcolm is suffering from dementia and has been moved to a nursing facility. It is sad news. These conditions generally get worse and rarely, if ever, improve.

This weekend we salute Malcolm Young with an AC/DC Weekend. We're kicking off every hour with a tune from the band.

Here are my Top Ten AC/DC songs:

  • 10

"For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)"

In 1981, the band had to follow up the monster album Back in Black. They brought out the heavy artillery for the title track.

  • 9

    "Whole Lotta Rosie"

Based on a true story. By the way, nineteen stone equals 266 pounds of Rosie.

  • 8

    "Thunderstruck"

The band kicked off the '90s with a bang. I could imagine Bon Scott singing this one.

  • 7

    "Problem Child"

As Bon admits, this song was inspired by Angus himself.

  • 6

    "Mistress for Christmas"

Santa never comes through with this gift. Of course, you probably weren't on the his 'Nice' list anyhow.

  • 5

    "Back in Black"

It was a hot day in 1980 when I picked up this album before I left it in the back seat of my mom's Buick Regal. I've never seen a record warp so badly. Picked up another copy along with twenty million other rockers.

  • 4

    "Jailbreak"

Here's the band in their early days with a righteous video! Dig the explosions. The first time I heard Bon sneer the lyric "...with a bullet in his back," it gave me chills. Still does.

  • 3

"It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Want to Rock 'n Roll"

Bagpipes in a hard rock tune? I couldn't imagine this song without them. Bon Scott was born in Scotland and embraced his roots in this song. The video was shot on a nice February summer day. Remember in Australia, it's summer when it's winter in the northern hemisphere. The city of Melbourne officially renamed one of the streets where the video was shot to ACDC Lane in 2004.

    "Kicked in the Teeth"

The story is that by the 1979, the suits at Atlantic Records wanted the band to record a ballad, despite protests from AC/DC that they didn't know how to do that. They were told to think about when a woman broke their hearts. Naturally, they responded with "Kicked in the Teeth." Right on.

"Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be"

Let There Be Rock was the first AC/DC album I ever listened to and it is still my favorite. Sentimental? Maybe. But I stand by it. "Whole Lotta Rosie", "Problem Child", the title track and my favorite song from the band.
