Before he was Michael Scott, and before he was a bit player on The Daily Show he was a hapless catcher in a Illinois Lottery commercial in 1991.

Who knew? This recently posted video on YouTube features Carell as a baseball catcher that most viewers would have to presume as for the Chicago Cubs.

Carell is the only visible face in the ad. He never actually catches a pitch, because the pitch never reaches his mitt. In his disgust he decides to play a scratch off ticket from the Illinois Lottery.

My favorite part is the voice over guy saying "...you could win up to $250." Carell scratches the ticket and scores the big prize and walks off just as a pitch that doesn't get hit out of the park nails the umpire in the chest.

These kind of commercials make me miss the 90s.
