The Cost of Getting Caught ‘Getting it on’ in a Car in Illinois
Get a room, you freaks! What is the penalty in Illinois for getting caught doing things you shouldn't do...in a car. It's good to bring this up a couple days after Valentine's Day so you can say, oops! DOLCIANDWEILAND
First off, is there a "lovers lane" in Rockford? That's an interesting question I thought about while putting this together. Safe side streets, a park, the driveway where the ex lives? Who knows...but seriously, get a room!
So here is the rule, the law, the naked truth on getting caught doing naught stuff in Illinois in your car. The "public indecency" overview for Illinois, if you will.
Public indecency is prohibited by Illinois statute 720 ILCS 5/11-30. Which states if you are over the age of 17 and do this stuff, and get caught, you're in deep trouble:
- Performing an act of sexual penetration or sexual conduct, busted.
- Engaging in lewd exposure of the body. Anything sexual by nature with you exposing, busted.
Here's an important side note with this, that will probably answer a question swirling in your brain reading this:
"A person does not have to expose himself or herself to face a public indecency charge--in fact, a person can be charged with the crime while fully clothed." - DolciandWeiland
O.K. so what are the penalties for such behavior? Getting busted in this way is a Class A misdemeanor charge.
- Up to one year in jail; plus...
- A fine of up to $2,500.00
So there you go lovebirds, get a room or pay a heavy fine and risk a year in jail. Yikes!
