Summer Will be Longer & Hotter in Illinois, Welcome to a ‘Heat Dome’
Just as Mayor "Potty Mouth" Lightfoot announces the possibility of a "dome" over Soldier Field, here come news about another type of dome that we are in RIGHT NOW!
Two weeks into the summer of 2022, and it's been quite toasty. Hotter than normal temps have been pretty much the deal...and this will continue for the summer. Why is this? Is it the whole, 1980's Hair Bands destroying the ozone layer thing...Not quite.
We are in what smart weather people call, a "heat dome." Welcome to the heat dome, be sure to take your shoes off at the door!
O.K., so what the heck is a heat dome?
A heat dome occurs when a persistent region of high pressure traps heat over an area - ScientificAmerican
These heat domes can last for a while, weeks to be exact. Plus they can stretch over multiple states as a time. Illinois it's heat dome time!
Temps are up, if you have any sort of garden, crops OR an animal that enjoy the outdoors...time to cover and bring inside.
As I right this the heat dome appears to be heading farther west and we will escape the sizzling temps, for now. However, the heat dome the high temps and dry conditions will return.
Chicago "should" get about three more days of the crazy heat, which means we will get at least three more as well. PATCH
