- Illinois is the number one producer of nuclear energy in the United States. Does Homer Simpson work here?
- Illinois has an official state dance and it's Square Dancing. Now, that's a weird choice. Is that why we had to take it during gym class?
- Illinois has an official state soil. It's drummer silty clay loam. I'm guessing it's good to grow corn.
- Illinois produces the most pumpkins in the world. Maybe, that's why Halloween is so popular in our state.
- Illinois is mostly made up of farmland. Okay, that one makes sense.
- Illinois is flat. The highest point is only around 1,200 feet above sea level. That's what we call a ski hill.
- The Chicago River flows in the wrong direction. They're trying to keep that gross water out of Lake Michigan.
- Illinois was home to the tallest man in the world. His name was Robert Wadlow and he was eight feet eleven inches tall. No, he didn't play for the Chicago Bulls.
- Illinois had other capital cities before Springfield. They were Kaskaskia and Vandalia. Those names would've been too hard to announce on The Simpsons.
- The Illinois Secretary of State won't allow you to have the license plate "URANUS." The funny thing is I know a comedian, Dobie Maxwell, has that license plate in Wisconsin.
