Stiff Penalties Possible For Illinois Residents Who Violate Stay-At-Home Orders

The shelter-in-place order from Governor Pritzker is serious business.

In case you were wondering, yes, you could be criminally charged for breaking the order.

That's further down the list though, as the Illinois State Police released six steps they will take in determining if someone is in violation.

• Education about the order
• Verbal or written notice to comply
• Possible sanctions from regulatory authorities that may oversee non-essential activity
• Civil liability
• Court ordered closure or quarantine
• Criminal charges

Obviously, police don't want to arrest someone for breaking the shelter-in-place order but if it comes to that I wouldn't doubt officers will take action.

Shelter-in-place exists to keep everyone safe and will prevent further spread of the coronavirus.
