Scary Moment At Rockford Kmart Sunday Afternoon

A scary incident happened between a security officer and a suspected shoplifter leading to a vehicle hijacking and injuries at Kmart on Sandy Hollow Road.

According to Rockford Police,

Upon arrival, officers determined that a security officer for K-Mart attempted to stop a retail theft suspect in the parking lot. A struggle ensued and the suspect was able to get in the driver’s seat of the security guard’s vehicle.

A bystander attempted to help the security officer out of the car but was unable to do so, leading to the suspect driving away. The suspect dragged both the security officer and the bystander "a short distance" causing serious but non-life threatening injuries to both men.

Vehicle Description:

4 door Ford, with an “Allied Security Services” decal on the front doors. The vehicle also had a clear light bar mounted on the top of the vehicle.
