It's been a busy week on The Late Show with David Letterman this week. The Foo Fighters are in residence all week and they've been bringing their friends to play with them. Their most recent project is Sonic Highways, a new album with a companion HBO series. Dave Grohl took the band to various cities and hooked up vital artists from each town to write new music and talk about inspiration. When they stopped in Chicago, they spent time writing and recording with Buddy Guy and Rick Nielsen. Rick is from the band Cheap Trick. Cheap Trick is from Rockford, I believe.

Everyday this week they welcome a different artist to play with them. On Monday, they did Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" with country picker Zac Brown. On Tuesday, Ann and Nancy Wilson brought the house down with a killer "Kick It Out." Last night, Tony Joe White sat in with the band for a great version of one of my favorite songs of all time, "Polk Salad Annie."

Mr. Nielsen hits the stage with the Foo Fighters tonight (10/16) and Friday (10/17). What will they play? "Surrender"? "Clock Strikes Ten"? We'll find out tonight and tomorrow. This ain't Rick's first appearance on Dave's show.

In 1994, Cheap Trick performed the title track to their then-new album Woke Up With a Monster. Great song. Creepy album cover.
