Can I be blunt with you for a minute?

Dealing with all this COVID stuff as a parent with young kids SUCKS, big time.

My emotions and conscience are constantly at war with my reasoning, and I am so sick of questioning whether the decisions my husband and I are making are the right ones for our girls.

I recently had to crush my oldest daughter's summer dreams by telling her she wouldn't be going to Pony Camp this year. I didn't have to tell her that because the camp had been cancelled, in reality it was just pushed back, but my husband and I just felt sending her this year wasn't the safe thing to do.

I am tired of being split between thinking all these COVID-19 precautions are over blown and unnecessary, and shouldering the responsibility of keeping my kids safe.

The one thing I do know for sure is, if Rockford schools reopen this Fall, my girls will be going. Making that statement doesn't come without its fair share of guilt though. If my kid's school day involves no recess, art, music, or gym and requires her to remain in a classroom with the same people all day while wearing a face mask, my heart will break, but I will still send her. Does that make me a jerk? Maybe, but I still feel in-person classes are what she needs most. The benefit still, slightly, outweighs the bad in my opinion.

Apparently, many Rockford parents disagree with me, and that's okay, they bring up some very good points.

On Monday I asked this question on Facebook; "Will you send your kids to school this Fall if wearing a face mask all day is required?"

We got over 180 responses to that one question, but here's just a few of them...

Ultimately, I feel the option of sending kids to school in face masks should be left up to parents. Health precautions need to be put in place, but I do agree required face masks is a recipe for disaster. Let's home some other options are brought to the table when the final announcement about the 2020/2021 school year is made.
