This week's Hometown Hero is the trifecta of a man.

Marianne M. of Rock City, Illinois submitted a nomination letter that proves this man is more than deserving of recognition. Rob Martin, of the Winnebago Fire Department, has a resume (if you will) overflowing with volunteering within his community. Until 2020, Rob served as Fire Chief for the Win-Bur-Sew Fire Protection District. He is also a veteran.

Here's Marianne's note about Rob.

Rob Martin has served our country and our community as a veteran of our armed services as well as the Fire Chief of Win-Bur-Sew Fire Protection District for 23 years.  He began his career after serving overseas in Iraq.

He officially retired as the Fire Chief on January 14, 2020, after being very involved in his community: visiting classrooms to teach children about fire safety, assisting surrounding communities with investigations, and traveling throughout Illinois to share his knowledge just to name a few things.

Rob is a devoted father and husband, a humble man with an easy-going demeanor, a great sense of humor, and a genuine desire to help others achieve their potential.  He is well respected by all who know him.

Thank you, Marianne, for the well-written note about Rob and his selfless dedication to our country and the community. He truly is a Hometown Hero.

As a Q98.5 Hometown Hero, Rob will receive a $100 Amazon gift card thanks to Gustafson's Furniture & Mattress. Although we're certain he won't spend it on himself, whatever he uses it for will bring joy to someone, and that's what life is all about.
