You Won’t Believe What Vending Machines Are Still In Illinois
The company is bankrupt and out of business but you can still find their vending machines in Illinois.
How Are Redbox Vending Machines Still Found In Illinois?
What was that old Donnie and Marie Osmond song, "A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit Rock N Roll?" I kind of feel that way with entertainment. I enjoy new technology like streaming services for music, movies, and shows. At the same time, I'm still a big fan of vinyl records, CDs, and DVDs.

I go to local record stores to buy physical products. If there were video rental places around, I would still go there too. There's something about seeing the media products in person, looking at the covers, and reading the liner notes.
I was sad when the last of the Family Video locations closed in the Rockford area. At that point, I started using the Redbox vending machines. They were convenient and cheap to grab a movie when I was at the store. As streaming services became a bigger deal, I eventually stopped renting movies and just watched what was offered.
I think many people stopped renting movies from the machines during Covid. Unfortunately, earlier this year Redbox declared bankruptcy and shut down the business. I heard the company was selling off the DVDs for super cheap prices and going to be removing the machines.
I can't believe it but the Redbox vending machines can still be found all over Illinois including in Rockford. I recently saw this one in front of the Walgreens at Charles and 20th Streets. By looking at that machine, the last new release offered was the "Barbie" movie.
Apparently, Redbox hasn't removed many of the vending machines from locations because they are extremely heavy, difficult to move, and expensive to do so. I've seen videos on social media of people still using them. I was tempted to try it but I decided against it.
