Thin Lizzy is a band that I have only dug into recently. Frontman Phil Lynott is universally revered as a great songwriter and soulful singer. Lynott lost his battle with drugs and died in 1986 as Thin Lizzy struggled to stay relevant and inner turmoil with the band and record companies threatened it's future. Thin Lizzy hailed from Dublin, Ireland where a statue of Lynott currently graces the town square. U2 comes from the same place and in the mid-80s they travelled through America and wrote about it, producing their classic album, "The Joshua Tree." Before that though, Phil Lynott put pen to paper and wrote "The Cowboy Song." Many have written about how the life of a rock band is much like that of a band of outlaws; six-string cowboys, steel horses, etc. But I think Lynott did it best with this one.
