Queen Movie Soundtrack to Include Live Aid Performances, New Versions of Classics
The soundtrack to the upcoming Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody will contain songs from their legendary Live Aid set in 1985, in addition to new and live versions of the band's best-known songs.
Four songs from their Live Aid performance — "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Radio Ga Ga," "Hammer To Fall," and "We Are the Champions," as well as singer Freddie Mercury's "Ay-Oh" crowd singalong before "Hammer to Fall" — will be on the record and have never before been released in any audio format.
The Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack will be released Oct. 19.
In addition to the Live Aid material, the soundtrack will contain a version of "Fat Bottomed Girls" live from Paris in 1979, "Now I'm Here" from the band's 1975 Christmas Eve show at London's Hammersmith Odeon and "Love of My Life" from the Rock in Rio festival of January 1985, where Mercury and guitarist Brian May performed the song as a duet in front of 300,000 people.
Additionally, the album will feature a version of "We Will Rock You" that starts as the studio version and then blends into a live take, with audience participation, a mix created especially for the film. May also recorded new guitar parts for the version of "Don't Stop Me Now" that appears on the soundtrack, to bring the song closer to how the band plays it today.
There's also a version of "Doing All Right," credited to Smile, the band May and drummer Roger Taylor played in before Queen. (They remade the song on their first album.) For the Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack, the pair reunited with Smile's singer Tim Staffell to recreate the lead vocals on the song, 50 years after it was originally recorded.
Bohemian Rhapsody stars Rami Malek as Mercury, Gwilym Lee as May, Ben Hardy as Taylor, Joe Mazzello as bassist John Deacon and Lucy Boynton as Mercury's lifelong companion Mary Austin, and opens on Nov. 2.
