Metallica Plays Winnebago Fair Grounds July 5th 1998

It was hot, it was packed, and I bumped into Sean Penn at a Porta-Potty.

July 5th 1998, Metallica played The Winnebago County Fairgrounds as part of their "Poor Re-Touring Me" tour.

The fine folks at the fairgrounds were not ready for this. Lines were long, it was steamy hot and Metallica was held up in traffic.

I had a chance to meet Metallica that night which was pretty awesome. Did the meet and greet, the band was great. James Hetfield was in a very happy, joking mood which is good. I had done a couple Metalllica meet and greets years earlier where he wasn't exactly friendly.

I headed towards the Porta-Potty on the way out of the meet and greet, as Sean Penn exits. There is something you don't see everyday.

Traffic on 90 to 20 was backed up, close to a two hour wait and the band received a police escort to to the fairgrounds.
