Tomorrow looks to be a "positive" and historic day in Rockford, regarding COVID-19. The beginning of vaccine distribution is scheduled to begin on Wednesday. Those on the frontline, our first responders will be first in line. We truly appreciate all that our first responders have done during the pandemic.

According to WREX Mercyhealth hopes to start distributing the COVID-19 vaccine to our local frontline workers on Wednesday. As part of Illinois 43,000 doses of the vaccine, Mercyhealth is expecting 4875 doses. How it is distributed locally, goes by the counties with the highest death rate. The death totally have hit us hard locally in Winnebago, Jo Daviess, Ogle and in Carroll county. Numbers are a bit lower in Boone, Stephenson, Dekalb and Lee.

In the state of Illinois NBC Chicago the top counties to receive the COVID-19 vaccine:

  • Green
  • Wayne
  • Carroll
  • Ford
  • Mason
  • Union
  • Pike
  • Clay
  • Jefferson
  • Clinton

Winnebago comes in at #41.

Illinois will be receiving the Pfizer vaccine (this is a two dose vaccine, injected three weeks apart) which has a 95% effective rate.

We are asked to continue social distancing, and the wearing of masks. Just because there is a vaccine, we are still required to do our part. Let's follow the rules and hopefully the distribution of the vaccine is a quick and smooth one.

Wednesday brings a slight exhale. We are not out of the woods yet, but history will be made locally.
