Melbourne Police are searching for a thief that commited a heist in true cartoon character fashion.

The at-large, unidentified thief used a fishing rod to remove a Versace necklace from a mannequin in a display window.

The incident happened after 2 a.m. on February 24th. Police say they believe he cut a hole in the glass earlier in the evening, and came back hours later with the fishing rod.

The crook worked at trying to get the necklace for 3 and a half hours, even switching out the rod for a longer one halfway through. The value of the necklace is about $7,000

Police asked the public for help via Twitter, which was met solely by less than helpful comments.

The man is described as a white male 40 to 50 years old, about 5' 9", with short, receding hair.
