If you're a Machesney Park resident, you may be eligible for grant money to do some repairs to your home.

Village officials announced earlier this week that they have been awarded a grant from the Illinois Housing Development Authority’s Housing Trust Fund Single-Family Rehabilitation Program that will help residents pay for renovations to their homes.

They will be awarded $428,132, that will then be redistributed to homeowners through grants that will aid in fixing approximately 11 homes.

This program is intended to help those in low-income or very-low-income homeowners make improvements that are safety and/or health hazard. These would include things like the repair or replacement of windows, roof, siding, furnaces, and air conditioners.

Homeowners will be able to start submitting their applications to the Village's Building Better Neighborhoods single-family rehabilitation grant program starting Wednesday, July 10th through Friday, July 26th at 4pm.

The winners will be drawn via a lottery on Wednesday, July 31st, at 3:00p in the board room at Village Hall (300 Roosevelt Road).

If you are interested in applying the Village is only requiring the applicant’s name, address, phone, number of occupants, and the estimated combined household income.

There are some types of properties or projects that Village officials are warning do not qualify for the grant, which would be:

  • Homes located in the Floodplain
  • Mobile Homes
  • Condominiums

Also, your home's fair market value cannot exceed $115,000 prior to repairs.
