In the city of Rockford and across the country, we remember Officer Jaimie Cox today. It was the early morning hours of November 5th 2017 that the call went out in Rockford, "officer down." Time stood still for family, friends and fellow officers.

In the days and weeks that followed, the city of Rockford mourned and showed solidarity with blue lights on their porches. There was an amazing turn out of people lining the streets at the body of Officer Cox was moved across Rockford. The open arms of this city was recognized.

As we all embrace changes and hardships in our lives in this difficult year, let's pause and say thank you to those that gave everything. Officer Cox was there to protect us all the morning of November 5th, 2017.

 

Patrol Officer Jaimie Cox was killed during a traffic stop near the intersection of East State Street and Dawn Avenue at approximately 1:00 am.
The vehicle attempted to flee during the incident and dragged Officer Cox before crashing two blocks North of the initial incident. Despite suffering critical injuries, Officer Cox was able to call for assistance. Responding officers found him on the ground near the crash scene. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the vehicle that fled was found deceased in the vehicle from a gunshot fired by Officer Cox. - Jaimie Cox Foundation
