Junior College Football Game Called Off After Vicious Brawl Complete With Flying Garbage Cans
East Mississippi Community College and Mississippi Delta Community College squared off on the football field Thursday night, but a wild fight ended the matchup before they could even reach halftime.
East Mississippi was cruising along on the road with a 48-0 lead with 59 seconds left in the second quarter before all heck broke loose. Even fans got in on the mix.
It's unclear if East Mississippi will be credited with a win. The team is slated to host a playoff game next weekend, but the status of that contest is up in the air because players who leave the bench during a fight are supposed to be suspended one game.
Scott Walters, a reporter for the Commercial Dispatch in Columbus, Miss., was at the game and tweeted updates, including some comments from EMCC head coach Buddy Stephens:
EMCC has already been at the center of controversy this season. Last month, a referee was tossed from a game after he threw a punch and a clipboard at Stephens, who was also suspended one game for his role in the altercation.
