Traffic on Interstate 39 / 90 is reportedly backed up for several miles after the road was closed in both directions after dozens of cars and trucks were involved in a crash on Friday afternoon (1/27).

At 2:12 pm on Friday afternoon, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation posted on its social media accounts that both directions of 39/90 are closed between Janesville and Beloit due to the multi-vehicle accident.

According to the post on Twitter, the Wisconsin DOT said it was helping to assist motorists involved in the crash and asked that travelers stay away from this area while they investigate and clear the roadway.

Southbound lanes of Interstate 39/90 are closed at Avalon Road so motorists should detour at Exit 177 (Hwy 11) and those traveling northbound will have to detour at Exit 183 (Hwy S/Shopiere Rd).
