Minnesota and Iowa Homeowners Could Be Out Thousands Because of Huge Mistake
WARNING! Before it freezes anymore in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, or Illinois, there is one thing that you MUST take care of that will take you less than a minute and could save you thousands and thousands of dollars.
This morning, we had frost everywhere and I know at my house it was below freezing. Knowing that snow is just around the corner makes me incredibly sad but I have a little bit of happiness right now because my allergies are full-blown and I feel miserable. I need the ragweed and whatever else is growing that messes with my body to just die. The frost I saw this morning will do it!
Must-Do Item Before it Freezes in Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, or Wisconsin
Before our temperatures drop down to freezing, there is one thing that you need to take care of at your house. If you decide NOT to keep reading, you may end up spending thousands of dollars to fix the issue, all because you decided NOT to keep scrolling.
DO THIS BEFORE THE FIRST FREEZE: Walk around your house and look for all of your faucets. If you have any hoses still attached, disconnect them now.
It’s important to remember to detach your garden hoses at the end of the season. Even if you have a “frost-free” spigot, you still need to remove the hose in the winter, or run the risk of your pipes freezing and bursting.
Why? Water expands when it freezes, and nothing changes that. When you leave your garden hose attached and filled with water, and that water freezes when the temperature dips, ice takes up nearly 10% more space than the same amount of liquid water does. Unfortunately, in the case of a water pipe, there’s no room for expansion. The result is burst pipes, broken valves and joints, or all of the above. - copperheadplumbing.com
