Today marks the one year anniversary of the deadly tornado outbreak that ripped through Washington, Illinois, killing eight people, injuring over one hundred and causing over one billion dollars. Of that billion dollars, $935 million of it was caused by the EF4 twister that rolled through Washington. The sheer power was devastating, with winds of up to 190 m.p.h.

The whole tornado outbreak spawned seventy-three twisters that affected seven states and produced hail as large as 4 inches in diameter in Bloomington, IL. If there's one thing hearty midwesterners know, it's hard work. Many Washington residents have made the decision to stay and rebuild:

The disaster did spark a rock 'n roll reunion that many said would never happen. Styx and REO Speedwagon headed up a benefit concert to raise money for the victims. Over 7,500 people gave their support at the Rock to the Rescue Concert in Bloomington and saw REO Speedwagon welcome founding member/guitarist Gary Richrath on stage for a smoking hot "Ridin' the Storm Out."
