The Illinois State Police issued a warning for anyone that might be receiving calls asking for cash donations on behalf of their department.

The release, posted on the Illinois State Police Facebook page yesterday mentions "an individual will call and claim to be associated with the ISP." and will ask "for donations for officers who have died in the line of duty."

The ISP also provide the number most associated with the scam calls. The number is 312.789.5176, but they say "phone scammers have the ability to quickly change the phone number that is displayed on caller ID."

Plain and simple, if somebody calls on behalf of the Illinois State Police asking for cash donations, report it to the Office of the Illinois Attorney General at 800.243.0618.
