Next came the porch pirates. As consumers began ordering more off the internet and having it delivered directly to their homes, the bad guys found it the perfect opportunity to start stealing those items. Then, the thieves would break into mail drop boxes throughout Illinois towns. Next, the criminals held up mail carriers and sometimes even carjacked the postal employees. It was becoming a seriously scary crime spree.

Illinois Police Targeting Postal Thieves
The police throughout Illinois have started fighting against postal crimes by targeting all these mail thieves. Over the last 6 months, they've really stepped up their arrest game while going after these criminals. The hard work has paid off. In just 6 months, the officers in our state have made over 600 postal crime-related arrests.
With mail theft and postal carrier robberies up, law enforcement officials have made more than 600 arrests since May in a crackdown launched to address crime that includes carriers being accosted at gunpoint for their antiquated universal keys, the Postal Service announced last month.
