The fact that high school football in Illinois is about to begin is just weird. It's March, after all, but it is what it is. At least now the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) has elaborated on how many fans can cheer on their teams from the stands. (Sorry basketball fans, you're not going to be happy by the end of this article.)

The Illinois High School Association dropped a nugget on Facebook this morning that is still leaving some fans up in arms. IHSA has stated, per the Illinois Department of Public Health, outdoor high school sports in areas that in Phase 4 may "increase spectators from 50 persons to 20% venue capacity." This number differs from indoor sports, such as basketball, which sits at a total of 50 fans. As for indoor sports, like volleyball and basketball, nothing is changing as of this article.

This change is for outdoor sports only.

Despite this news, some fans have expressed displeasure with the decision.

In August/Sept junior high sports had no restrictions. There was no vaccine at the time. The 20% outdoor is better than 50, but still makes zero sense. - Jake S.

If you are wondering if NIC-10 and surrounding districts fall in the appropriate region just confirm your team is in Region 1 and you'll get your answer.

For IHSA basketball fans, up-to-date 2021 stats and scores are here and MLB baseball fans may enjoy listening to Len Kasper calling all Chicago White Sox games here.
