How to Retire a Flag in Rockford

Today is Flag Day and if you need to upgrade your Stars & Stripes, here is how to do it.

According to KNIB Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful Recycle Centers will accept flags in need of retirement this week at:

• Rockford Recycle Center 4665 Hydraulic Road, 61109
• Roscoe Recycle Center 13125 N 2nd Street, 61073.

So if your flag has seen better days due to weather, years of use, etc. Time to upgrade and this is the proper way to get rid of the old.

In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that established June 14 as Flag Day.

In August of 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress.
