Valentine's Day 2021 is almost here.

I've got a tip, if your Valentine says, "You don't have to get me anything!" Get them something. One time my brother fell for that phrase and every year since he's gone above and beyond just in case he still has some making up to do.

The best part of Valentine's Day is you really don't need to break the bank to get your Valentine something special. You could even hand make a card and it would be super special. Then of course there's the classic card, flowers, chocolate. As long as you show a little extra love that's really all that matters.

A new survey looked at how much people from each state spend on Valentine's Day. The average was $33.64. So how does Illinois compare?

According to OPP Loans, Illinois spends an average of $36.42 on Valentine's Day. Wisconsin is a little less, they rang in at $28.12. I was curious what state spends the most and what state spends the least. Apparently Alaska could care less about Valentine's Day because their average is $0.00. So who spends the most? New Mexico takes the cake at a whopping $168.24.

So it looks like if you're more of a boujee Valentine, you're in the wrong state. Here's how men compare to women when it comes to average spending -

  • Men’s average amount spent: $41.38
  • Women’s average amount spent:  $25.85

But like I said, a homemade card is always a sure fire win!
