UPDATE: A 42-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the fire, according to Eyewitness News.

Illinois The vacant Forest City Tennis Center was still standing a good distance from the still-standing eyesore know as the former Coco Key Water Resort, which was connected to the old Clock Tower Resort which is now a field.

According to WREX, the effort to extinguish the fire was quite a job. The endeavor took seven hours' worth of work by the heroes at Rockford Fire Department. The cold temperatures, along with the size of the fire, did not make matters easy.

The Rockford Fire Department reports $500,000 in damage to the Forest City Tennis Center which was vacant at the time of Friday's fire.

No injuries were reported as the building has been vacant for some time. Unlike past massive fires in Rockford in 2020, no foul play is suspected.

The 50+-year-old facility has since been demolished, leaving even more land to make way for what hopefully will be Rockford's Hard Rock Casino. WREX shared some images of the massive fire, you can view them here.
