Fight Cold the Old Fashion Way With Bourbon
I can speak from experience when I say there's a nasty cold and/or flu going around.
My girls have each taken their turn with it over the last couple of weeks.
As of yesterday, it feels like my turn is about to start.
When I was a kid I remember my mom telling me about how her parents had her and her siblings drink a "hot toddy" when they were sick.
She tried it once with me, but since my mom isn't a drinker she bought a blackberry brandy instead of a whiskey or bourbon.
Let's just say, she only gave it to me once and I don't like brandy to this day.
So since my kids were oh so generous to share their germs with me, I'm thinking instead of cough syrup, I'll fight this the old fashion way. Just like my grandparents.
In my research, I came across a simple recipe for a Bourbon Cough Syrup.
So you don't have to look for yourself, I'll share it with you now (obviously this is intended for adults only):
- 2 oz Bourbon (dealers choice)
- 2 oz lemon juice (about a half a lemon)
- 2-4 oz water (optional)
- 1 tbsp honey
Combine the first three ingredients in your glass of choice and microwave for 45 seconds. Add the honey, whisk to mix well then microwave for another 45 seconds.
This cough syrup works well before bed or if you're healthy as a nightcap.
