A former campground in Cary, IL was placed on the "Endangered Illinois Landmark" list.

Now there's talk it could become a "glampground".

Is Cary, IL a place for glamorous camping?

Apparently, the McHenry County Conservation District thinks so.

They want you to “Reimagine Camp Algonquin as a modern, outdoor hospitality experience that provides a nature retreat for Midwest adventurers."

They've set up a public meeting this Thursday, Feb. 22nd "at 7 p.m. for an informational meeting on learning about their proposal at Prairieview Education Center, 2112 Behan Road, Crystal Lake.

The Northwest Herald reports that the old Camp Algonquin, founded in the 1800's as part of the "Fresh Air in the Country" movement. Camp Algonquin, which is now in the Fox Bluff Conservation, is one of the four camps that were built during this time.

The camp was purchased in 2004 by the McHenry County Conservation District (MCCD) and then was leased to the McHenry County YMCA to serve as a camp for their programs up until 2011 when the YMCA filed bankruptcy.

Now MCCD is considering turning the campground into luxury camping, or "glamping".

They say that "the grounds at Fox Bluff (where Camp Algonquin is located) will encompass indoor and outdoor gathering spaces, walking trails and riverfront views, as well as luxurious rental accommodations.”

Okay, I'm all for saving historical sites, but is 'glamping' necessary?

Let alone, is Cary the place for glamping?

What do you think? Will this be a largely visited place to go in the spring, summer and early fall months?
