Eligible IL Residents Can Now Get COVID Vaccine at Walgreens, CVS

I know so many people who have been waiting impatiently for their chance to get the COVID vaccine, and as of today, that time has finally come.

Illinois is now in Phase 1B of its vaccination plan, and the eligibility list has just extended to persons 65 and older and  'frontline essential workers'.

According to the Illinois Department of Public Health's website, 'frontline essential workers' include;

many residents who carry a higher risk of COVID-19 exposure because of their work duties, often because they are unable to work from home, and/or they must work closely to others without being able to socially distance. This includes first responders, education, food and agriculture, manufacturing, corrections workers and inmates, USPS workers, public transit workers, grocery store workers and staff at shelters and day cares.

The State has also announced that hundreds of more vaccination sites will be opening throughout the state to "ensure vaccines are administered as quickly and efficiently as possible". These new vaccination sites include Walgreens, CVS, Jewel-Osco, and several National Guard-led locations which will be opening soon.

If you're ready to run out the door to Walgreens or CVS today to get your first shot, let me just tell you this, I just checked the Walgreens website to see if they are taking appointments, etc. and all it says is that the vaccines are "on the way".  So...before you hop in the car and start rolling up your sleeve, call ahead and see how the process will work and when they'll be ready.
