It's a debate that has been going on for years, should high schools in Illinois and Wisconsin set up a breathalyzer at prom so students don't show up drunk?

The debate has been going on for years. A long time before I was even in high school. The talk starts every spring. Should high schools have a breathalyzer set up at prom to prevent students from getting drunk?

Breathalyzers At High School Proms In Illinois And Wisconsin

It sounds like an episode of "Beverly Hills 90210." I remember they brought it up at my high school back in the day, but it didn't get much support. It doesn't seem to happen very often. There is a school in Wisconsin doing it this year.

This year, for prom, South Milwaukee High School will have a breathalyzer and metal detector set up at the entrance. Students will have to go through both in order to enter the building. There's even a warning on the ticket.

As a student, I was highly against having a breathalyzer at prom. Let's just say, my friends and I were kind of troublemakers, so we wouldn't have been able to get in. As a parent, I'm just looking out for the safety of the students and the event.

Having a breathalyzer at the door to test everyone might be a bit much. Maybe, if they suspect a student of being drunk, then they do it. The event is alcohol-free, and all the students are underage. What do you think?

According to CBS 58 in Wisconsin, "when you think of high school prom, you tend to think of elegant dresses, music, and dancing, not breathalyzers. However, for students at South Milwaukee High School, if they want to take part in their big night, they'll have to take a breathalyzer test when they arrive."
