National movie theater chain including locations in the Rockford area is rumored to have drawn interest from Amazon.

Amazon is taking over the world. I've been saying it for a while. Before COVID-19, it was already a very successful company but since it's become a monster.

Besides selling things, they also have a television streaming service. They even create their own programs.

What's next for Amazon? How about the movie theater business? Well, that's the latest rumor.

According to forbes.com,

"Shares in the largest movie theater chain in the world, AMC, which has been hard hit by the lockdown, have risen 30% following rumors of conversations with Amazon regarding a possible acquisition."

Why would Amazon want to purchase that struggling organization?

Currently, to be eligible for an Oscar, the movie has to be shown in a theater which their movies don't. Prime Video produces plenty of content. They could secure combined movie theater and Prime Video deals for films and actors. It would be another perk for subscribers. Along with many other reasons.

To me it just makes sense. AMC needs help too. We'll see how this plays out in the next few months.

What do you think?
