In 2022 the Rockford Speedway lost their leader, Jody Deery. So between Jody's passing and the way that the area is developing around the Rockford Speedway...This is a decision that makes the most sense for all involved.

“For years we have watched the surrounding area evolve into a vibrant retail corridor, this day has been coming and while it’s great for the city, it stings for the thousands of fans and racers who have made Rockford Speedway their ‘family’ for generations. We know this will be the last year for our major events losing use of the property in front of the Speedway along Hwy 173 as that area will be developed first, with the track itself remaining until further land sales.” - David Deery

Personally, the Rockford Speedway played a big part in my radio career. For years, I would be there bright and early the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend...and leave 14-15 hours later. What an incredible family, and crew of folks to work with for what was this annual tradition. The single biggest concert day in the Rockford area every year, had an amazing host location...The Rockford Speedway. There were years when we took the show elsewhere...But it never felt right, not being at the Rockford Speedway.

Thank you to David, Susan and of course Jody. You provided YEARS of entertainment for race rans and rock fans.

I'll sip a Hemi in your honor, and think back to looking over a sea of people doing the same thing.
