Many Chicago Cubs fans aren't happy with the changes that are coming to the Wrigleyville area in Illinois.

Sad Changes Coming Around Wrigley Field

I've been a Chicago Cubs fan for as long as I can remember. There are two main reasons why. Number one, my dad was a fan. Second, I could watch the games when I got home from school. There were no lights at Wrigley Field so they played day games.

Wrigley Field is such a unique ballpark in so many ways. One of the most famous attractions in the area is the rooftops. There are apartments right across the street. Back in the day, residents of the buildings would hang out on the rooftops to check out the games. It was nothing fancy.

Then, it became a "thing." The building owners put bleachers on top and sold tickets. It was a really cool experience. The team battled the neighbors because they were making money off the games that they weren't paying for. Eventually, the Cubs purchased the majority of the apartments.

I believe deep down we knew it was coming. The entire Wrigleyville neighborhood is completely different. The land was worth too much and there was lots of money to be made. The last remaining remnants were those rooftops even though the new scoreboards block some of the view.

Secret Chicago

The city council just approved the tearing down of three of the famous Wrigleyville rooftops. It's the end of an era. The buildings marked for demolition are on Sheffield Avenue. I'm sure this won't be the last. Not all Cubs fans are happy with the progress in the neighborhood. It's a sad day for baseball history in Chicago.
