Just last night, out of the blue, my oldest daughter started excitedly talking about being old enough to ride the bumper cars at the fair this summer. The "fair" she was referring to is the Winnebago County Fair, and before party pooper Mommy swept in to ruin her day, I thought I better check my facts first.

In the past few weeks a slew of summer cancellations or postponements have been announced due to COVID-19, but one major local festival we've heard zip from is the Winnebago County Fair. I have already mentally prepared myself for a summer without any funnel cakes and amusement rides, but I decided to hop on Facebook before I did the same for my daughter.

On Wednesday night, (June 3), the Winnebago County Fair released this update on Facebook;

Hi All! Just wanted to take a moment to update everyone on what's going on at the Winnebago County Fairgrounds. I know there has been a lot of questions as to whether or not the Winnebago County Fair would be taking place this year due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. The Board has been holding off on making a decision as things seem to change almost daily. It is our understanding that the Winnebago County Health Department will be releasing the guidelines for the next phase mid June. At that point, the Board feels they will have all of the information necessary to make the best decision for our community. Therefore, an announcement will be made via our Website, Facebook, local news and newspapers by June 17th. Thank you so much for your continued patience and support during this difficult and confusing time!

So...we don't have an official answer yet, but we will soon. I guess I'll wait a few days before I officially crush my daughter's summer plans.
