Verne Troyer, ‘Austin Powers’ Star, Seeking Treatment for Alcoholism After Hospital Stay
Austin Powers star and Surreal Life feature Verne Troyer is seeking treatment for alcoholism after being hospitalized for nearly two weeks, according to TMZ.
The site adds that Troyer has been struggling with alcohol for years, and nearly died of a related incident in 2002. Still, Troyer insisted in a Facebook post yesterday (April 6) that he's getting the help he needs, and will succeed thanks in part to the support of his fans.
"I've been hearing from some concerned fans, so I'd like to address a very personal situation," he wrote. "As you know, I've battled alcohol addiction in the past and while it's not always been an easy fight, I'm willing to continue my fight day by day. I've been receiving treatment for the last week and I am voluntarily checking into a treatment center later this week to continue to get the help that I need. I want to thank everyone that's reached out with their messages of support, it truly means the world to me. With your support, I got this."
Fans very eagerly shared messages of support.
"You have all our support and then some. Hopefully you will be able to get to a place where you see the world and your life with a fresh set of eyes," one commented, while another noted "You are in my prayers my friend. I'm so proud of you for seeking help."
