Alternative taxi service, Uber, may be coming to Rockford soon.

According to WIFR.com, Mayor Larry Morrissey met with the owner of Uber this week. They talked about bringing the service to Rockford.

How Uber works, is passengers download the free smart-phone app Uber. Once you log in, you can request a ride for yourself or friends. The app allows you to compare rates for different vehicles and get fare quotes. You can use a credit card or PayPal to pay for your fare.

Once you set your pickup location and final destination, your driver will pick you up. Drivers are freelance and use their own cars to shuttle passengers. You can also track your drivers progress of your Uber at anytime.

Mayor Morrissey hopes that this service will be in town by the end of the year.

I asked my friends in the big city of Chicago what they thought about Uber and the response was unanimous. Everyone LOVES it! I can't wait to see what this brings to Rockford.
