I had no idea where my research would take me, but I'm glad it took me here.

I've often heard Rockford called 'The Screw City,' and I'll be the first to say I judged the book by it's cover.

I always assumed it was a term created by those who have no respect for their city. Those who have lost their Rockford Pride and those who fail to see the beauty in this incredible city. I couldn't have been more wrong.

Turns out, with some help from Google, I was able to find my answer.

Why is Rockford

The first article that popped up after I searched on Google was from GoRockford.com.

The article explained that Rockford has many nicknames:

Forest City: Because of the rivers valley's and verdant woods.

City of Gardens: Because Rockford is the home of 7,000 acres of parkland, tree-lined streets and a several public gardens.

And, the most embarrassing nickname, Screw City, or Screw Capital of the World: Because of the billions of screws, bolts and fasteners Rockford's many factories produced for manufacturers around the world.

Well, there you have it.

Seems like a simple explanation to me!
